Mr. and Mrs. C Arrive in Costa Rica

We have finally arrived at our base at Los Almendros de Ocotal (from now on to be referenced simply as LAO). The trip was rather uneventful until we boarded the connecting flight in Mexico City. A group of fifteen decided not to board, and for security reasons the crew had to find and remove all of their checked luggage from the plane. We left Mexico after sundown, arriving in Costa Rica a bit late. By the time we made the ten minute taxi ride to Hotel Mi Tierra in Alajuela it was already 12:30 a.m.

After a typical Costa Rican breakfast of fruit, eggs, and Gallo Pinto (rice mixed with black beans) this morning, we got down to business. We first finalized all hotel accommodations for the team, rented a vehicle (which took absolutely forever under "tico time"), and then made a stop at Walmart - (yes, and might I say it is the most beautiful Walmart I have ever been to). After getting needed supplies, we again fell victim to tico time when I tried to buy and activate a prepaid cell phone. Patience and Perseverance were needed, even though they do not fit into our "S.A.C.R.I.F.I.C.E." acronym, and we hit the road well after 3:00 p.m.

I am definitely glad that I ordered the GPS with the vehicle, because navigating to our destination was no picnic after dark. Nevertheless, we have arrived at LAO for some much needed rest. Tomorrow is a take-it-easy day because it is our 25th anniversary. I know you are cheering at this moment, and so we thank you. Please keep us and the team in prayer - there is still so much to do.

Blessings,
David and Norma
